Case Study: Solving for Scale in Tick Pest Research

THE CLIENT: Animal Health Consultant

THE INDUSTRY: Animal Health Research / Livestock Pest Control

THE CHALLENGE

An animal health consultant was working with their client to develop a new tick control product which required an understanding of how cattle producers and veterinarians in southern U.S. zones (2A and 3A) manage tick infestations, including methods, brands, and gaps in solutions. Both broad survey data from hard-to-reach producer types and expert insights from tick specialists, an extremely niche and academically grounded audience, were required to have a successful product launch.

THE SOLUTION

The Vet Access Division designed and executed a multi-layered research approach to reach specialized agricultural audiences and deliver comprehensive insights.

  • Adaptive recruitment: Activated a curated livestock health focused panel along with custom outreach, screening, and desk research to find qualified respondents across niche producer groups.

  • Balanced sampling: Balanced the quota design to gather insights from across beef, dairy, feedlot, cow-calf operators, and veterinarians to capture varied views on tick control practices.

  • Expert interviews: Facilitated in-depth discussions with four southern cattle tick experts to bring deep knowledge of treatment gaps, regional pest pressures, and industry challenges.

THE IMPACT

This research delivered decision-ready insights that enabled the client to move forward with clarity in a complex and highly specialized animal health market.

  • Representative data: Amassed all 240 responses across the targeted producer and veterinary groups, reflecting real-world perspectives.

  • Expert insights: Uncovered in-depth input from niche cattle tick experts, adding credibility and context that’s hard to access otherwise.

  • Actionable direction: Supported informed decision-making through the insights needed to have clear guidance on product, delivery, and messaging.
